Rich Internet application

Rich Internet application (RIA) เป็นเว็บแอปพลิเคชันที่มีความสามารถของเดสก์ท็อปแอปพลิเคชัน โดยทั่วไปแล้ว RIA จะทำงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับส่วนติดต่อผู้ใช้บนเครื่องของผู้ใช้ แต่จะเก็บข้อมูลต่างๆ (เช่น สถานะของโปรแกรม) ไว้บนแอปพลิเคชันเซิร์ฟเวอร์

โดยปกติแล้ว RIA จะ
รันในเว็บเบราว์เซอร์ หรือไม่ต้องติดตั้งซอฟต์แวร์เพิ่มเติมเป็นพิเศษ
ทำงานบนเครื่องของผู้ใช้ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่จำกัด (sandbox) ด้วยเหตุผลด้านความปลอดภัย
